Women's self defense advocates have gathered statistics that bring a new name associated with a different kind of rape. This is called date rape. This attack is common, but it hasn't really had a name until the last couple of decades. The typical image of a rapist is a man that runs out of the bushes and forces a woman to have unwanted sex. The art of women's self-defense teaches women to use the abilities given to them by Mother Nature. Women are naturally stronger in the lower body and must not be afraid to use their legs when defending their person. The women's self-defense course will teach the female to kick or stomp on their attacker and when all else fails, run. They are usually up to date on where or when the next course will be located. Your local YMCA or women's advocacy groups will also have the information you are looking for. Another source is your states Department of Family Services. Since the fight against domestic and women's abuse is such a prevalent issue there, they will probably have the information. No matter if you live in an urban or rural area or if you are rich or poor, domestic abuse is apart of live and without the knowledge of women's self defense; you are seeding the problem that you or your children will be harmed or killed. Domestic abuse crosses the barriers of race, religion, or socio-economic status. If you do end up in the position where you are being attacked, women's self defense will then demand that you become physical. Do not put your life at risk, but use the hands on defense you have learned to disable your attack so that you may run away. Be loud. Scream as loud as you can. This could be enough to scare away the potential rapist. These new and important talents can be gained through classes at the local community center, YMCA, YWCA, and some are even offered through the local law enforcement agencies. Since the courses are so readily available, no woman should ever live in fear of a potential assault by a new suitor. In the past, the prospective date would be known to the woman, or at least known by the woman's friends or relatives.
