Be aware of your surroundings. If you are waiting for a bus, stand near other people and never stand alone. Be aware of who is getting on and off the bus. If you think you are being followed, tell the bus driver or get into an occupied building as fast as you can. When you do get off the bus, get off in well lighted areas that are in the publics view. It is for this reason that every single woman, regardless of age, should learn the basics of women's self-defense. Women's self-defense is an important set of skills that one should investigate. These new and important talents can be gained through classes at the local community center, YMCA, YWCA, and some are even offered through the local law enforcement agencies. A whistle is a good choice because the noise can be heard from a long distance. You can wear the whistle around your neck and it can be easily gotten to in case of an attack. Blow it loud and long. The more panicked the whistle sounds the more attention it will get from a passerby. Run while you are blowing it. If this does not stop him, then report him. An example of physical safety is just that. You are being compromised physically and you have to do something to escape harm. Women's defense will teach not how to kick an attackers butt, but will teach you how to fend him off long enough to get away or get help. Families have been attacked at the grocery store parking lot, at the mall, and even at home. As a mother you owe it to your children to be able to protect and yourself. The attack upon your person, whether if sexual or physical, can leave scars on both your body and your mind. The trauma of an attack can live you emotionally scared for years. Some women may not feel that they are excluded access to a women's self-defense class; however this is often not true. Many communities have athletic gymnasiums which offer martial arts classes or even specific women's self defense courses. School systems also often sponsor learning seminars which will include a class in women's self defense.
