However, there is evidence that it is not the unknown attacker that should be of concern, but those that are chosen to be trusted. Should one choose to learn the women's self-defense required to defend themselves against the unknown attacker, or would that time be better spent learning how to read people and allowing those who are unstable to remain outside of our lives? Why choose a man to rob when he is likely not only to defend himself, but would also slow down the assault and get away. Women are the logical choice for the criminal activity because most women would succumb to the assaulter's wishes because of smaller stature and less strength. Women were protected in the past by society's rules and a sense of chivalry. It has happened but there is safety in numbers and a woman and two kids make more targets that escape and more witnesses if they are caught. Always keep your kids within arms reach, especially when you are in a strange place and especially if they are to young to recognize the danger. Never leave your child alone in a car. Women's self defense instructors will teach that when you jab a person in the stomach slightly below the chest bone, the attacker will back away quickly or try to turn his or her body away to get away from the pain. When you apply pressure next to the collar bone it will cause the attacker to move downward away from the pain. You must use it the right way. If the attacker is coming at you, point the pointy end of the umbrella at his face and lunge forward with the foot that is on the same side of the umbrella. Remember do not swing the umbrella like sword. It will not stop or injure the attacker. You must use the point. Aim at the face area, especially toward the eyes or mouth. Women's Self Defense and Domestic Abuse Most people would think that women's self defense is only to protect a woman from a robber, rapist, or murderer. Most women how are attacked are attacked by a loved one of a person that they know. Domestic abuse is the number one reason a woman should take a woman's self defense class.
