Sufficient Amount of Water: Iguanas should be given adequate water to drink. Usually, they eat plant and vegetables, which meets their requirement of water to some extent. They also lick the water from petals. If they do not take sufficient water they will get dehydrated. You should keep water in deep bowls for them. It is most commonly found in Mojave deserts of South Eastern California, Southwest Utah, Sonoran deserts, Southern Nevada, California, Baja, Northeast Mexico ,South Central Arizona, and gulf of California Islands. It is fond of living in sandy and arid dwellings, generally under creosote bushes and rocks as its shelter. It is a fact that these tiny animals can turn very large very soon and may also become aggressive. However, they are generally good pets and you have to take their proper care for food and living. If you want to keep them as pets, it is better you acquire some basic knowledge about the nature of iguanas, the way they live, their habits, food, behavior and what are the necessities for their existence. There should be a warm place to bask with a temperature around 110 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use a spotlight for this purpose. Heat tape, under tank heaters and ceramic lights are some of the other alternatives. The Food: The food given to iguana should be healthy and nutritious. You can follow a diet plan for them in consultation with an expert. The other suitable alternatives are the inner as well as outer carpeting, linoleum lining or artificial glass. You should not use mud, soil, sand and bark as these will breed pest in them and cause damage to iguanas. You should clean the dwelling of iguana and sterilize it twice every week. You can place a few pieces of rocks, drift woods, broad limbs, branches etc. The excess salts are released by their body through their nasal glands when they go for sunbath. Their faces become whiter because of the salt in their bodies. The color of male marine iguanas changes with the season. When it is the reproduction time, the adult males get a teal green or reddish color.
